A group of elementary students from Rosalyn Yalow Charter School in the Bronx, New York has won this year's New York State Scholastic Chess Championship.  To honor the students, Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. visited them to announce that April 30, 2018 is now known as Yalow Tigers Chess Champions Day in the Bronx.

The 25-child team, comprised of students between kindergarten and third grade, is only in its second year.  And it's already breaking records.  Officials say students from Rosalyn Yalow won two out of 11 divisions this year -- a feat that has never been done in the same tournament before.  The tournament itself has been going on for 52 years.

Jerald Times, Chess Across Borders' CEO, managed this team to victory.
